A few months ago Jodi and others received correspondence from Frank "Bob" Montgomery, a first cousin of the children of James and Myrtle (Montgomery) Williams. Bob provided them with some loose papers depicting his research and history of the ancestors of James and Myrtle.
Having done research on the genealogical history of my Littrell family, I offered to look at the papers and see if I could organize them into a historical presentation. Having worked with the papers for the last few weeks I have used my software to organize the material and believe that I should be able to put together a nice family history and picture book for the descendants of James & Myrtle (that's you).
I am too tied up in my websites and research of my Littrell family to undertake any new research, so initially I will be reliant on the information provided by Bob and his contributors for the genealogical parts of the book and upon you for information on your families. With your cooperation I should be able to piece together a historical narrative.
“The Goal: is the presentation of a recent and historical history of the family.”
In undertaking this ‘project’ there are many ways and techniques for collecting and sharing information to facilitate the completion of the project.
The ones that I will use with this project have worked for me in the past, and have been instrumental in bringing the history to the families covered in such projects. They are:
- Establishing a Facebook group page for sharing information with, and collecting information from members of the group:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/1171007843013672/?ref=bookmarks
The group page is ‘closed’ which means that only members can see what’s posted there and can post information there without it automatically being seen by everyone on Facebook or in their friends list. The public can see the group page, but only who the members list, not what else is on the group page. Members can add people from there friends list with approval of the groups admin, me. Approvals are subject to the rules of the group page, primarily that they are connected to the family of James & Mertle (Montgomery) Williams, their descendants, ancestors and cousins. - The creation of a Family Book: The history section:
- The creation of a Family Book: The photo section:
- Establishing a public website (this site) for sharing information. Not every family member is on Facebook.
Unlike the Facebook group page the website is public and searchable, which is why I don’t allow anyone to ‘post’ to the page except me. Most of what is posted on the Facebook group page will appear on the website, but it will be screened or modified. Besides displaying family history to family members who aren’t on Facebook the public website also serve to attract family extended and distant to find out about the project. It also serves as a searchable site for other Montgomery and Williams researchers looking to exchange information. - Archiving and preserving family pictures, old and new. In the works
- Montgomery Williams Places: In the works
- Montgomery Williams Calendar: Pending
I hope to have the book completed and available at this years Independence weekend picnic. If I don't have the book completed in time it will be because of a lack of cooperation and information from the descendants of James & Myrtle. If you, your siblings and cousins provide the information by the deadline I will complete the book in time.
If the book is completed in time and you have not provided the information then it will be to late. No second printing is planned. Usually a second printing is done about two years after the first printing to accommodate improvements and additional information provided after the first printing deadline.
